I just returned from a trip to northern Idaho to attend
my wife's 20 year high school reunion. On Friday
night about 2100, while driving back to the hotel, I
noticed the sky was lit up. I recognized it as an auroral
display, more dazzling than I had ever seen. I witnessed
the northern lights while attending college in Washington
state in 1980, but had not seen it since then, in spite of
three aurora chasing trips, one to Alaska and two to
Washington. This display Friday night far exceeded
anything I saw in 1980. Saturday night was cloudy
but there is some chance the aurora will be visible
by Robert Bradbury, Anders Sandbergand their neighbors,
and of course John Grigg. Take a look! spike
