Actually, what I meant to type here was that there was a period of low
inflation -- but not _zero_ inflation -- in Japan for quite a while, but
this was followed in the late 1980s by higher inflation and reduced savings
rate, especially after the tax on savings was implimented. At least, this
is my recollection.
Also, remember inflation's effects are myriad and mostly hidden.
