Scientific American Reports that this month's Nature Genetics
documents a temperature sensitive mutation in the XPD gene.
Some mutation in the XPD gene cause trichothiodystrophy which
reveals itself as a decreased capacity for protein synthesis.
When patients with the specific mutation run a fever, their
protein synthesis of keratin decreases so much that their
hair all falls out.
