I've always wondered why it is that UNIX professionals so often base their
opinion of MS products on information that is 5-8 years out of date. Is this
some sociological phenomenon, or is it just a reflection of the fact that in
the UNIX world an established product usually doesn't change much over that
kind of time span?
Probably 80% of the complaints I see today by UNIX folks about Windows are
things that Windows programmers were complaining about in the mid-90s - only
MS listened to the complaints, and fixed the problems. (This counts only
complaints that have substance, of course - "I don't like the way it works"
is inherently a matter of opinion, and therefore unanswerable).
