"Given that she was raised as a devout, pre-Vatican Catholic,
we can understand that her moral and social choices were made
based on a world-view and set or mores which are largely (at
best) laughable to *us* ("us" in this
context referring to transhumanists and extropians - a
group that is not only more temporally current - like
everyone else - but, also espouses highly
futuristic/technophilic/individualistic values)."
I agree with Lee Daniel Crocker's erudite salvo on this topic.
I also appreciate what you are saying. Why? Because it contains
a type of balance and causes us to consider behavior in light
of background. Does this dismiss her sanctimonious manner?
No, it does not. But what it does do is broaden the landscape
of understanding on human nature, as unpleasant as it can be
at times. And with such knowledge, we can recognize it and do
our best not to repeat it in ourselves and also in the intelligence-forming
characteristics of life forms we design.
(On another note, extropians are transhumanists. Transhumanism
is a large umbrella, if you will, and under it are various types
of transhumansits. (i.e., "extropians and other transhumansits"))
