Overall, though, I think Socrates was a better person than Rand, though I
agree more with her philosophy than with his. This is, at least, from what
biographical details I've gleaned about both.

I've never read any of Pressfields novels. However, I have read and do
recommend Mary Renault's. Her _The Last of the Wine_ features Lysis (from
the Plato's dialogue of the same name) as a character. Her _The Mask of
Apollo_ features Plato, Dion, and some other people prominent at that time
as characters.
