Limited heat conductivity, bad surface/volume ratio, plus necessity of
vascular coupling to a large thermal reservoir (the rest of your body)
imply it doesn't matter which cooling technique you use, as long as
you're limited to surface-based cooling methods.
The lung is a remarkably good heat exchanger, PLV based cooling with
liquid fluorocarbons can actually achieve faster cooling rates than
even peritoneal lavage, at very modest baro- and volutrauma of the
lung tissue.
