Depending on how abstractly you want to interpret it, allowing for
50,000 plus
years of cultural distortion, Tolkein's Silmarillion might fit into this
genre.
What were those elves up to, with all this gem "creation" anyways? Mega-scale engineering [Directing geologic processes on a massive scale]? or merely nonotech computers?
