The scientists who created Dolly the sheep, the world's first adult
clone, said Wednesday they hope to take the process a step further and
have a genetically manipulated clone by the end of the year. Scottish
researchers also hope to clone a cow by then. Cloning, scientists say,
is an outgrowth of research into animal breeding and the production of
medicines from animal blood and milk. Transgenic sheep that have
partly human genes have already been created. The sheep produce a
human protein for use in treating cystic fibrosis. For the full text
