AI: Wired's "Happy Birthday HAL 9000"

This month's Wired magazine caught my eye: Staring back from the cover is the
famous red-tinged fish-eye lense of the machine intelligence HAL 9000 from
Stanley Kubrick's and Arthur Clarke's "2001". The feature articles take the
occasion of the fictional "birth" of HAL 9000 on January 12, 1997 to focus on
the current state of AI art as compared to the yardstick of Clarke's and
Kubrick's projections from the mid-1960s.

An interesting tidbit comes from one story in the magazine about an ongoing
Kubrick project, a film witth the working title "AI" about an artificial
intelligence. Included in that article are some 1971 quotes revealing that
Kubrick has long held a pretty clear vision of transhumanity.
