While it is true that science is a collective endeavor, it is also
true that a single individual can, seated on top of the results of
this collective endeavour, work alone and produce something good, that
is only incorporated in the mainstream science at a later stage.
Of course the syndrom described does exist. But you cannot infer it
safely from the symptoms listed.
And sticking with the community is no guarantee either of not wasting
your time -- far from it.
