There seems to be a problem with my online subscription to Science. How much
was the increase in life span?
It's a funny study -- particullarly if it does't use the dauer state -- and
reminds me of the work of Van Zant from Kentucky. He claims that stem cells
are responsible for aging and the differences in longevity found in mammals.
Something like: the more backup stem cells a species has, the slower it will
age. Here's an article:
De Haan, G., and Van Zant, G. (1999). "Genetic analysis of hemopoietic cell
cycling in mice suggests its involvement in organismal life span." Faseb J
13(6):707-13.
