Vernor Vinge's fans who may not already know should be aware that his
new hardbound collection from Tor includes a new story, "Fast Times at
Fairmont High".
It's set in a near future, and appears to be an early draft of the
opening of a novel. It portrays high school students who are
beginning work on their "limited" and "unlimited" graduation
problems.
It features localizers, ubiquitous networks, consensus imagery,
disposable processor clothing, and youths who are more expert at using
computer interfaces than their elders (which I found amusingly
prefigured by an exchange between Vinge and Eliezer Yudkowsky here:

This, plus the completeness of the collection and the appeal of a
hardbound volume on acid-free paper, make it a definite buy for me.
