Perhaps it's not all that gloomy. The p53 gene was overexposed in that strain of
mice and although they had a strong resistance to cancer they aged more quickly
and died of other things, or at least most of them did. Two of the 200 mice in the
experiment did not get cancer and did not age unusually fast either, so there must
be a loophole around the cancer Vs aging conundrum someplace.
