Yep. When I lived in Germany, the no speed limit autobahn was an eye
opener. The German's didn't scare me, but the other GIs did. To get a
German driver's license is nearly as difficult as it is to get a pilot's
license in the U.S. Mandatory dual instruction, rigorous testing, the
works. The result, however, is an a-bahn that is not a *complete*
demolition derby. I'm told, whoever, that while the accident rate is
lower than the US, the fatality rate is about the same, since any accident
that does occur is more likely to be fatal.
