Caveat: I'm talking user apps here.
Sometimes... it depends on how hard the backend is, and how different the
presentation (front end) is from the process (backend).
If it's bigger than trivial, I tend to design front and back end seperately,
then fit them together. Surprisingly to many coders, the users don't care at
all about the backend; just the ease of use of the front end, (functionality
of front end too, maybe as number two criterion).
