They didn't discover Europeans. Europeans discovered them.

Stonehenge is very accessible because Europeans and Brits built a Chunnel
from the Continent to England, wrote copiously about Stonehenge and
published their work, broadcast pictures of Stonehenge on The Discovery
Channel and elsewhere, and made it a tourist attraction. The builders of
Nan Madol did not. (Note: Again, I'm not saying what Nan Madol builders
did, but what they did not do.)
Sure, location is important, but only to those who know how to make us of
it.
For example, before it became Las Vegas, that location was a desert.
