The fascinating thing about the article is that there are several
things that are technically inaccurate. Showing that even when you
are a big news company you can still mess up the news.
Regarding the interests by several people in solving problems
with distributed computing, you may want to look at:

distributed computing architectures and software interfaces for
programming them. If anyone has pointers to add to this please
send them to me.
If I combine the information on these pages what seems clear to
me is that you want to construct the Beowulf clusters in Canada.
