The cortex has maps. You can remap them, perhaps even dynamically, but
you need ways to manipulate the "external" (i.e. stuff outside
yourself) world. Your motorium needs not to be visible (though it
helps a lot for establishing/maintaining control loops), but you need
to keep internally track of its state for it to be instrumentally
effective. Noninteracting wraiths are strictly dysfunctional (sounds
like a nice torture to me).
I don't get a clean way of getting things done by merely thinking
about them, and generically to do away with Euclidian space. At the
switching speed of computronium cells, relativistic constraints become
quite noticeable. If you're concerned about efficiency, distance
matters a lot in the virtual, a lot more than now.
The first uploads, unless done by AIs, will have to be very corporeal.
