Four scenarios might be keeping current AGI work a secret: 1) NSA is
working on it to process all the email they'd like to be scanning. 2)
Google is working on it and wants to make a profit off it. 3) Someone in
a garage somewhere has a brilliant idea but isn't connected to academic
publishing channels, and isn't confident enough of his work to publicize
it. 4) Some group working on it is afraid that there's a race on for who
controls the singularity, and keeps their work secret in the fear that
publishing will help a Hitler get there first. Actually, all of those
scenarios are probably actually happening, but some are more likely than
others to end up with results.
