Yes, didn't mean to imply this as anything but a low probability desperation move. It is doubtful an FAI could do much against a UFAI entity armed with MNT. Even this assumes spies in MNT research programmes were available to warn of its impending success. Many of the "bad" events that come with achieving 1st MNT could be precipitated pre-emptively by an outside body which believed it was about to lose the MNT race.
By tyranny, I don't refer to the outcome if Kim Jong Il, China, or radical neoconservatives attain administrative control over MNT. 3M, Intel; any corporate heirarchy or national administrative body would likely yield a MNT tyranny in the best of scenarios as the goals of leading a successful corporation or nation are at odds with the safe application of MNT. At the risk of sounding redundant, I'll say it looks likely that MNT can be "bought" by short-sighted people in a way that the more esoteric field of GAI probably cannot be.
