Score one for Phoenix. A 500 nm motor with a
multi-wall carbon nanotube shaft has been
fabricated. The outer layer of the nanotube
was broken off mechanically using an atomic
force micromanipulator. This layer was
attached to the rest of the motor parts and
shows the nearly frictionless bearing
that Drexler has been talking about for
years does in fact work:

What I find amazing is the number of different
techniques that were brought to bear in making
this motor, and how far they've come from the
days of spelling 'IBM' with atoms.
