I think one of the changes in the business landscape that has come out of
the '90s is the emergence of companies that are both really big and
surprisingly agile.
I have worked at Cisco Systems off and on. It is actually quite
amazing how fast that company can change directions. Having worked for
big corps before, I have always been extremely impressed with how
streamlined their operation was; Cisco isn't an Industrial Age big company
by any means. This combination of size and new found agility will probably
define the market place for at least the next decade. Traditionally, the
advantage of the smaller companies was that they could move faster, but
this new breed of big company may be changing that.
