Singapore and Freedom (was: violence...)

Uhm. Say what you will about Singapore and freedom generally, but the
Singaporean government controls large portions of its local economic
sector through, surprise, monopolies by fiat. Think like the Post Office
only more so. Singaporeans can trade freely outside of Singapore, but
actually doing business on the island puts one under extreme restrictions.

Ask a Singaporean what they think about this, and they'll tell you that
it's not so bad to have the government running important sectors of their
economy, because for some reason (national character?) these government
monopolies are regarded as highly efficient at what they do.
