During the 70s and 80s, NZ went far to the 'left' in the sense of high
taxes, generous social programs, and onerous regulation. The economy and
the currency nearly collapsed. In the 90s they have been bouncing back
from that, and 'classical liberalism' is now popular in NZ. The trend in
the 90s has been towards libertarianism, but I don't know how far it will
go.
