Nod. Just take a look at ESA (and they're not even a private
company). They're making major scientific discoveries at a
much lower budget than NASA _and_ they get additional income
from commercial sattelite launches.

The NASA's launch pads and technology are so wasteful that
they're actually losing out on the commercial launches they
do -- launchpad materials from the 60ties just don't cut it.
