I notice during the short debate concerning character formation/control that
some speak of a "self" as separate to any emergent property of the action of
genetics and environmental adaptation.
What is this "self", just the consciousness/sentience ?
Are you proposing that the self is totally objective, as is required to be
"free" to make unpredictable decisions?
Is this a remnant of the old humans-the-centre-of-the-universe "free-will"
pipe dream, or does this phenomenon ("self") have any counterpart in
reality?
I'd be most interested to hear the extropians' comments!
