True, complexity PER SE (neuro-physiological, non-organic cybernetic, or
mycelic) does not necessarily imply ("emergent"?) consciousness (even basic
sentience, beyond mere "vegetative"). Having conceded that, however, it
might behoove the two instant parties, and anyone else out there to check
out (thoroughly, and without prejudice) most or all of Terrence McKenna's
stuff on psilosybin-containing mushrooms. Terry's brother, Dennis, has done
some good work over the years in the neuro-physiology-cum-phenomenology of
the psychedelic experience. Terrence claims that the mycelic tendrons of
these particular 'shrooms do indeed harbor a vivid, quite high level,
intelligence. I myself am ambivalent/skeptical about this, but, hey, check
out their stuff, before pooh-poohing such ideas all together.
Best regards to all,
