Why not let scientists and philosophers own the principles they discover,
and license them for use? This gives researchers access to all kinds of
funding. It also focuses research on human needs. Finally, it reduces
the significance of credentials.
There might well be duplication of effort, but if disclosure were
required for licensing,
(like it is for patenting), openness would not be a problem.
