Actually the postal service has many large denomination stamps.
These are useful for mailing parcels and also for international air
mail, as well as perhaps making some extra income from collectors.
http://www.stampsonline.com/collect/stamp97/mars.jpg is a three dollar
stamp showing the Mars Pathfinder.
It would have been neat to have the Rand stamp be $1.00 but this way it
is more useful and even non-collectors can justify buying it.
