I think this poem is by Edna St. Vincent Millay (sp?). The missing line
goes something like this: "But ah my foes and oh my friends/ It gives a
lovely light"

I'm certain that's Emily Dickinson, "my candle burns at both ends"
(say what you will about her sentiments, she at least gets the meter
right), but I couldn't find it on the web at first try. You may
have better luck.
