It's very hard to study these things. The general rule is that if your body
can't degrade or eliminate a toxin (chlorinated aromatics, heavy metals,
soot and asbestos particulates) chronic exposure often creates long-term
effects. Where the body can degrade the toxin (most detergents, dust mites)
you generally can't find an effect, the main exception being the development
of allergic sensitivity under certain still-undefined circumstances.
