I don't really wish to get into a dispute over lexical priority, but I'm
pretty sure I originated the use of the term Spike in this context. Even
so, it's clear that the broad classes of possible singularities were
canvassed on this and other lists years before I joined. I'm not trying to
steal anyone's thunder... :)
