And let's not forget the computer industry: Andy Grove was an
immigrant starting from nothing to create Intel; Jobs and Wozniak
started Apple with money from selling a car. Even Bill Gates,
that icon of evil, has made more _employees_ millionaires than
anyone else in history, many of whom take the money and start
their own companies.
Horatio Alger may be fiction, and success may have as much to
do with luck as with hard work (honest capitalists never claim
otherwise), but it clear can and does happen.
