An aside ...
If my information is correct Scottish law has three outcomes:
Guilty - Judge determines sentence although jury can ask for clemency
Not Guilty - Sentence cannot be imposed but new evidence can easily cause a new trial
Innocent - all charges are dropped
Damned if I can remember where I saw/read this.
