Sorry, I misspoke. There is a fed ban on the books WRT sale/use of new
manufacture by regular folks. The people permitted to trade in post-ban
full-auto weapons are dealers, law enforcement, military and of course
authorized manufacturers.

The described situation (if it is taking place) of machinists producing
full-autos for use in films is still flagrantly illegal in this light, and
thus a very real potential source for enterprising bad guys--no studio in
its right mind is going to report a theft of such contraband, any more
than people who get ripped off in cocaine transactions tell the cops.
