I think there is reason to be hopeful when it comes to the spinal
cord. People are starting to do amazing things with neural growth
factors, so I think it is reasonable to think that a severed cord can
be re-connected at least to some extent under favorable
conditions. The main problem is of course to make these re-connections
usable, and I think there will still be a significant loss of
touch/dexterity - but it is better than nothing.
