Anyone who's interested in alternate musical scales
should look up "On the Sensations of Tone" by Hermann
Helmholtz, and particularly the appendices of his
translator Alexander(?) Ellis. It's a Dover book.
There's also a listserv devoted to the subject
(tuning@varese.mills.edu).
