It's down to 22% at the federal level(and 19% if yo only count taxation,
not spending), but state to state you can find a large amount of
variation in state and local taxation, from a low of 2.5% here in NH to
as much as 20% in welfare states like NY, MD, etc.

NH takes its "Live Free or Die" motto seriously.
