In particular, I'm willing to read, but I don't have the time
to make a reasonable selection among the various books on
economics or other "soft" science fields. When a list member
asks for basic info, please just say "IMO that's a fairly basic
question. I recommend ...." and cite a particular book.

My problem with the softer sciences is that even a well-educated
bunch like the participants on this list will frequently
disagree about the "basic" stuff, because these sciences
often lack an agreed-upon unifying theoretical basis. This
leaves them in the descriptive stage.
