I know the feeling. Why doesn't people realize all the exciting
things that happens right now, right under their noses? Why doesn't
they look at the stars in wonder, or dare to watch how the insects
around them really behave? I think this is a reason scientifically
and technically minded people gather together - at least we
appreciate some of the same things (likely many artists and social
scientists do the same thing too).

Yes, it is amazing. My office-mate came up with a nice solution: we
take turns reading the journals, copying the interesting papers we
find and giving them to each other. That way we can speed up our
information assimilation a slight bit.
