Hmm, critical developmental periods for music? Might be true. My
suggestion is to avoid playing just Mozart, and play a wide variety
of music styles so that the child can learn to understand them. I
have found that it takes some time to truly "get" music one is
unfamilliar with, and before that it is hard to perceive its beauty.

The same might go for other kinds of art. I grew up in an environment
almost devoid of poetry (lots of prose and music though), so I have
found that I have a harder time grokking poetry than many other
people. This might be the reason I like haiku and other minimalist
poems: less overhead in processing them, and a more direct effect.
