I asked this question myself when people started objecting to human
clones. I think a fear of the unknown could be the major cause of
arguments which suggest that such technologies are 'unethical'.

I see no ethical problems with self-engineering or cloning...
unless we actually are made in the image of God, blah, blah, yadda,
yadda, yadda.
