The US is stable enough, but the US government is becoming harder and harder
to avoid in day to day living. However, if you move away from the
metropolitan centers like New England and California, and move into places
like the mountain states, the Midwest, or Alaska, you will find that Federal
regulation and policy is considerably less influential. I lived a
significant fraction of my life in these less populated regions, and the
people that live there play by their own rules, often showing blatant
disregard for federal mandate. How long this will be the case is uncertain.
