SPACE: Cassini Nuke Phobias

I don't know how many of you get your daily HotWired, but there was an
interesting bit on the recent Delta rocket explosion. Apparently Bruce
Gagnon and his anti-nuke protesting group wackos are using this rocket
failure to drum up protests against the slated launch of the Cassini
Probe Mission, which happens to have a power supply which uses
radioisotope thermal generation.

They are ignoring the vast body of test work done that proved that these
units could endure inflight explosions, high speed impacts, and
sustained submersion at extreme depths (i.e. high pressure) without
leaking their contents.

While I would be the last person to advocate censorship, I sent off a
query to HW asking why they, a supposed techno-hip zine, even
entertained the luddite phobias of these people, yet have not covered
such greater threats to public health and safety as the radioactive
pollutants legally put in the air every day by coal burning plants, and
sold to concrete companies in the plants' fly ash. While even such
emissions, on a real level, are an extremely minimal risk, they still
are far and away greater than the emissions that nuke plants are
allowed. Cassini is a non entity statistically as a risk.
