Perhaps you are referring to the fact that our calls are local by distance,
not by area code, and that our area codes cover large geographic areas,
with the result that calls from one end of an area code to the other can
be toll calls, but calls to the near end of the adjacent area code can
be local. For my own part, I have local calls in three area codes, but
none of the three area codes lies entirely within my local calling area.
