Cause I was an engineer/entrepreneur who had some really cool technology
to offer, that people wanted to use for their own projects. I also had
the key inside conduit to the premier supplier of this technology, so I
could make things happen with regard to getting specific niche products
developed. Non-technically skilled entrepreneurs who find they need such
help will often try to find the cheapest source of help, i.e. their
freinds. Add in the various hilarious unlikely stories of my life that I
can tell, and a willingness to tell them, plus someone they could call
to hook up their stereo system just right, or fix their motor yacht or
airplane for a prime rib and Chateau Rothschild rather than $75 an hour,
and you can see what I mean.
