SCIENCE NEWS (10/12/96) reports on research published in
the LANCET (9/21/96) conducted by chemists at the Univer-
sity of California, Davis, which shows that cocoa powder
-- a.k.a. chocolate -- contains powerful antioxidants.
In fact, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder contain as much
as 146 mg of antioxidants, while a 1.5-once chunk of
milk chocolate contains 205 mg.
The high levels of potent flavonoids and other antioxidant
polyphenols in cocoa explains why a chocolate bar, while
being high in fat, does not go rancid when unrefrigerated.
So crank-out some antioxidant rich red wine and a that bar
of chocolate and live it up -- ah the joys of life extension.
