I think it is hard to tell what the actuall effects will be, since we do
not know yet the limitations of nanotech. If strong nanotechnology is
possible, then economy as we know it will be completely different (an
information-based economy might work in moderate cases, but if rapidly
self-augmenting SI becomes possible even that fails). If nanotechnology
is very limited the situation could be as in Brin's _Earth_, where it is
used for specialized applications but nothing more.
