No matter how much work the machines can do for us, somebody will
need to be trained to develop, maintain and verify the machines.
If we (humanity) don't understand what our machines do for us,
we're effectively prisoners of technology developed by our
ancestors, sounds like a very effective way to stop progress dead
in its tracks...
